Children’s books
I started writing children’s stories when I had kids of my own. I needed to come up with bedtime stories for them. To this day, they inspire me to create new fairy tales, which I hope other children will enjoy, as well.
Я начала писать истории для детей, когда у меня появились свои дети. Надо же им что-то рассказывать перед сном. Они и по сей день вдохновляют меня сочинять для них сказки, которые, я надеюсь, понравятся и другим детям.

The Amanita Dwellers (2024)
Мухомор
This fairy-tale is about ordinary miracles of everyday lives and how when we fulfill the wishes of others, we feel something special within ourselves. The characters in this fairy-tale are inspired by European folklore.
The main character, a myuklya named Fiokla, creates a cozy home in a giant amanita mushroom. It is inhabited by two whimsical fu-fus, a hard-working hamster Fyodor, and a fuzzy caterpillar Varya. All the dwellers feel comfortable and happy there: they are cared for and loved. One day, Fiokla is mysteriously granted three wishes. Without thinking twice, she makes wishes for her beloved mushroom dwellers. Will these wishes come true? And more importantly, will that make Fiokla happy?
The story is told in two languages – Russian and English, and is accompanied by colorful illustrations.
Эта сказка об обыкновенных чудесах в нашей каждодневной жизни и о том, что когда мы исполняем желания других, это заставляет нас чувствовать по-особенному.
Персонажи сказки навеяны европейским фольклором. Главная героиня, лесная мюкля Фёкла, создаёт уютный дом в огромном мухоморе. В нём поселяются две причудливые фью-фьюньки, работящий хомяк Фёдор и пушистая гусеница Варя. Все жители чувствуют себя комфортно и радостно: о них заботятся, их любят. Однажды Фёкле загадочным образом предлагается исполнить три желания. Недолго думая, она загадывает желания для своих любимых жителей мухомора. Исполнятся ли эти желания? И, что самое важное, сделает ли их исполнение Фёклу счастливой?
История рассказывается на двух языках – русском и английском и сопровождается красочными иллюстрациями.

This is a joyful children’s fairytale about a mythical creature named Fiokla who lives in an Amanita mushroom. At the beginning of the story, Fiokla lives with her pet caterpillar, Varya. Inspired by the size of her home, Fiokla decides to open it up to guests of all types. After two little blue alien creatures referred to as «fu-fus» move in, Fiokla welcomes a hamster and a mouse into her circle.

Is it possible to measure a mother’s love? The answer is again implied in the new children’s poem “MEOWvelous Show” by Katya Romanoff.
The central characters are five beautiful mom-cats who are each talented and unique in her own way. When they learn that their kittens’ school is falling apart, they decide to raise money to build a new school by performing in their original cat show on stage.
However, they encounter problems.

Making comparison is in human nature. We constantly compare ourselves and others to somebody like ourselves—whether we want to or not.
Poets and artists take this a step further and draw parallels between people and other beings or objects, such as animals or even inanimate objects. Or we compare the objects to people, attributing human qualities to them. But in the big scheme of things, this is not important: comparisons could really work both ways. Let’s say you want to compare yourself with a flower, so what flower would you be? On the other hand, if you are looking closely at a forget-me-not, for example, what type of person do you imagine? What really prompted me to write this poem was my long-term fascination with flowers. Contemplation of their amazing lines and shapes led to reflections on their imaginable characters and fates. What occupation or pursuit would each flower have? What lifestyle would it choose? How would it treat others around him? In short, what would happen if flowers lived by the same rules as humans?
But that’s not all. Each one of us wishes for something. It happens sometimes that our dreams and aspirations become the main drive in our lives. They prompt us to action and make us who we are. Perhaps that’s how it should be. Only we as humans should be responsible for our wishes and for the effect they may have on us and others if they were to come true. It goes without saying—wishing along is not enough. We must actually do something to turn our wishes into reality. And if you are sure that your wishes are good and philanthropic, then go for it! The whole universe will be on your side.
That’s what this poem is about, and I really hope it will resonate in your heart.
Сравнивать – характерная черта человеческой натуры. Мы постоянно сравниваем себя и других с кем-либо себе подобным – хотим мы этого, или не хотим. Поэты и художники идут дальше, и сравнивают людей с чем-либо им не подобным или не совсем подобным, например, с животными или даже с неодушевлёнными предметами. Или мы сравниваем предметы, наделяя их человеческими качествами, с людьми. Но, по большому счёту, это неважно – сравнение ведь работает в обоих направлениях. Предположим, если бы вам пришлось сравнить себя с каким-либо цветком, каким цветком вы бы были? Или, если вы посмотрите внимательно на незабудку, какого человека вы себе представляете?
На написание этой поэмы меня подвигло моё давнее восхищение цветами. Созерцание их прекрасных удивительных линий и форм привело к размышлению на тему их воображаемых характеров и судеб. Какое занятие могло бы быть у этого цветка? Образ жизни? Как бы он относился к другим, таким же, как он? Словом, что было бы, если бы у цветов всё было так, как у людей?
Но и это ещё не всё. Все мы имеем желания. Порой случается, что главный двигатель всей нашей жизни – это наши мечты и устремления. Они заставляют нас совершать многие поступки, быть такими, какие мы есть. Так, наверное, и должно быть. Только вот мы, люди, должны быть ответственны за то, что мы желаем. Какой эффект возымеют достижения этих желаний на нас и окружающих? Разумеется, просто желать – мало. Надо что-то делать, чтобы желания стали явью. И если вы уверены, что желания ваши благи и человеколюбивы, дерзайте! Вам поможет вся Вселенная.
Вот обо всём этом эта поэма. Очень надеюсь, что она найдёт созвучие в вашей душе.

Meeting of the Seasons (2012)

The poem “Meeting of the Seasons” conveys a philosophical message of an ultimate victory of youth and life over decay and death, employing universal metaphorical characters of the seasons: summer, autumn, winter, and spring depicted as four powerful women. The seasons represent different stages in any life cycle.
The poem asserts that even though winter, summer, and autumn are all powerful and beautiful, their powers should be acknowledged. Spring does something revolutionary and vital. Spring is the season that awakens nature from its winter sleep, reviving and rejuvenating all living things on earth. It is the most inspiring season. Within the poem, spring is representative of youth in one’s life, and, therefore, is the strongest and most victorious of the four seasons.
This poem is intended for children ages five to twelve and is accompanied by original-colored illustrations.
Стихотворение “Встреча времён года” содержит философский смысл: молодость и жизнь всегда побеждают старость и смерть. В нём использованы универсальные метафорические образы времён года – лета, зимы, осени и весны, – которые изображены как четыре могущественные женщины. Времена года также представляют собой разные фазы любого жизненного цикла. Стихотворение утверждает, что несмотря на то, что лето, зима и осень – властные и прекрасные, и их чарам нужно отдать должное, весна совершает нечто революционное и жизнеутверждающее. Весна – время года, пробуждающее природу от зимнего сна, оживляющее и обновляющее всё живое на земле. Она – самое вдохновляющее время года. Весна в стихотворении олицетворяет молодость в человеческой жизни, и поэтому самая сильная и побеждающая другие времена года. Книга предлагается детям от пяти до двенадцати лет. Она иллюстрирована цветными авторскими рисунками Анны Закашанской-Зверевой.
